(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 23 - Premier Giorgia Meloni on Sunday took
part in a telephone discussion with US President Joe Biden,
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Canadian Prime Minister
Justin Trudeau, French President Emmanuel Macron and German
Chancellor Olaf Scholz to examine the evolving crisis sparked by
the Hamas attack against Israel on October 7, the premier's
office at Palazzo Chigi has said.
Separately the White House said in a statement the leaders
reiterated "their support for Israel and its right to defend
itself against terrorism and called for respect for
international law, including the protection of civilians".
The leaders also reportedly hailed the announcement of the
arrival of the first humanitarian convoys in Gaza over the
weekend and called for the immediate release of hostages being
held by Hamas. (ANSA).
