(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 27 - Europe agreed to a compromise on the new Stability and Growth Pact that will have to be evaluated over time, Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said in a keenly watched hearing at the House budget committee Wednesday.
The agreement reached before Christmas averted the automatic return to stringent former budget rules and was "less rigid" than they had been, the Italian government said at the time.
The agreement on the stability pact, Giorgetti told the panel, "is a compromise, whether a compromise downwards or upwards I don't yet know, I have said and I reiterate that we will make the assessment in some time".
"The Italian success is the possibility of the extension by up to 7 years for those who respect (post-CoVID National Recovery and Resilience Plan), NRRP," the minister went on.
"It means that you have to respect the NRRP", underlined Giorgetti, 'in all this, flexibility has come into play and it is a great success of our country".. (ANSA).
