Mattei Plan not closed box, idea to be shared - Meloni

(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 29 - Italy's grand Mattei Plan for Africa is not a "closed box" but an idea to be shared with African countries, Premier Giorgia Meloni said in her closing speech to the Italy-Africa Summit in Rome Monday.
    "I said this morning and I reiterate it; on the Mattei plan we do not have a closed box: we have an idea to share, I have waited to see if this idea that we have in our heads is shared and sharable by our interlocutors because it can only be done together".
    Italy's so-called Mattei Plan, the planned new strategic partnership with African countries to address the root causes of irregular migration and turn Italy into a sort of hub for energy supplies from Africa to Europe as the continent tries to reduce its dependency on Russian oil and gas supplies after Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, can count on a budget of 5.5 billion euro including "loans, grants and guarantees", Meloni told the summit earlier.
