(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 27 - Centre-left candidate Alessandra
Todde's apparent victory in the Sardinia governor race shows
that the wind is changing in Italian politics, centre-left
Democratic Party (PS) leader Elyy Schlein said after the PD
teamed up in a 'broad field' alliance with the populist leftist
5-Star Movement (M5S) for the island campaign.
Asked if the wind was changing, Schelin replied "Yes, the wind
is changing, and some people didn't even bet that we would get
this far".
Schlein was speaking alongside M5S leader and ex premier
Giuseppe Conte at the electoral headquarters in Cagliari with
many PD AND M5S local leaders.
"I am very excited because, as Alessandra says, what is looming,
we are confidently waiting for the latest data, is a victory of
the Sardinians first and foremost," said Schlein, the PD's first
female leader, of what would be Sardinia's first woman
governor.. (ANSA).
