(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 28 - The Rome Public Prosecutor's Office
is to acquire the 11-month suspension order issued by the
defence ministry against Italian Army General Roberto Vannacci
after disciplinary proceedings stemming from the publication in
2023 of a controversial book as part of a probe into suspected
incitement of racial hatred in relation to the contents of the
same.
Prosecutor Erminio Amelio will also reportedly proceed with the
acquisition of the book itself, titled Il Mondo al Contrario
(The World Back to Front), which was not cleared by top military
brass and claims, among other things, that gays are not normal,
espouses the Great Replacement conspiracy theory about mainly
Muslim migrants replacing ethnic Italians, saying only white
people can be Italian, and lauds stand your ground self-defence
laws.
On Monday judicial sources said that Vannacci had been placed
under investigation by Rome prosecutors on suspicion of
instigating hate over the book after a number of associations
complained about its content. (ANSA).
