(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 10 - In his call for negotiations to end
the war in Ukraine reiterated during an interview to a Swiss TV
station that was released on Saturday, Pope Francis is not
addressing Kyiv, but rather the West, which is using Ukraine as
"an instrument" for its "ambitions", Russian foreign ministry
spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told ANSA on Sunday.
"The way I see it, the Pope is asking the West to put aside its
ambitions and admit that it was wrong," said Zakharova.
As for Russia, "we have never blocked the negotiations," she
continued.
"Today every expert, every politician, every diplomat
understands" that the situation in Ukraine "is at a dead end",
and that is why "many diplomats and countries are calling for
negotiations", added the spokesperson.
Separately on Sunday the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic
Church said the country has no possibility of surrender.
"Ukraine is wounded but undefeated. Ukraine is exhausted but
remains standing," said Sviatoslav Shevchuk.
"In Ukraine no one has the possibility to surrender! And to all
those who look with scepticism at our ability to remain
standing, we say: come to Ukraine and you will see!" (ANSA).
