Very serious VDL to Egypt with Meloni says Schlein

(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 16 - It is very serious that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen should be flying to Egypt with Premier Giorgia Meloni Sunday to continue allegedly failed migrant policies that trample on human rights, centre-left Democratic Party (P) leader Elly Schlein said Saturday.
    "I find it very serious that tomorrow the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen will fly to Egypt together with Giorgia Meloni to promise resources to the Al-Sisi regime in exchange for control and a stop to departures", she said.
    "This approach in recent years has only trampled on fundamental rights and has not produced a solution of European solidarity for which we will continue to fight," Schlein concluded. (ANSA).
