(ANSA) - TRIESTE, MAR 22 - Friuli Venezia Giulia Governor
Massimiliano Fedriga announced on Friday that the northeastern
Italian region plans to stage a joint bid to host the 2034
Winter Olympics with Austria and Slovenia.
"We have agreed to start working on a joint bid by Friuli
Venezia Giulia, Austria and Slovenia for the 2034 Winter
Olympics," Fedriga told a press conference after a meeting of
the Friuli Venezia Giulia-Slovenia committee.
Slovenian Deputy Premier Tanja Fajon expressed satisfaction at
the agreement.
"I agree with this proposal," Fajon said.
"It is an excellent idea for Italy, Austria and Slovenia to bid
together".
Italy has hosted the Winter Olympics twice before, with Turin in
2006 and Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1956.
Milan and Cortina will host the 2026 Winter Games. (ANSA).
