(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 25 - Two abandoned bags sparked a bomb
alert in St Mark's Square in Venice amid heightened security
after the Moscow terror attack Monday.
The bag and trolley case were abandoned above the high-water
footbridges in the iconic square.
The police have cordoned off the area between the bell tower and
the entrance to the Basilica.
From the first reports, the two bags had been noticed shortly
before in front of the Doge's Palace, left unattended by some
people.
Called in by local police officers, the owners had moved them,
only to abandon them again near St. Mark's bell tower.
In view of the international alert, a security alarm was
triggered and a large part of the square was closed off to
traffic while waiting for the bomb disposal squad. (ANSA).
