(ANSA) - ROME, APR 19 - The G7 is ready to impose new
sanctions on Iran after its attack on Israel last weekend, the
final communiqué of the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Capri
said on Friday.
"We demand that Iran and its affiliated groups cease their
attacks," it said.
"We will hold the Iranian government accountable for its harmful
and destabilizing actions and we stand ready to take further
sanctions or other measures now and in response to further
destabilizing initiatives".
A passage dedicated to the war in Ukraine said that "should Iran
proceed with the supply of ballistic missiles or related
technologies to Russia, we are ready to respond in a swift and
coordinated manner, including with significant new measures".
The communiqué called for all parties involved to seek
de-escalation.
"In light of the news about the raids on 19 April, we call on
all parties to work to prevent further escalation," it said.
"The G7 will continue to work to this end. We call on all
parties, both in the region and beyond, to offer their
contribution to this effort.
"We call on Iran to refrain from supporting Hamas and from
taking further actions that destabilize the Middle East,
including support for Hezbollah and other non-State actors.
"We call on all countries to prevent the supply of components
for Iranian drone and missile programmes." (ANSA).
