(ANSA) - ROME, APR 19 - AC Milan's hardcore 'ultra' fans on
Friday called for coach Stefano Pioli to be sacked after
Thursday's elimination from the UEFA Europa League at the
quarter-final stage by AS Roma left them with no hope of lifting
a trophy this season.
Milan are also out of the Italian Cup and they have no realistic
chance of catching runaway leaders Inter in the Serie A title
race, as their city rivals have a 14-point advantage over them
with six games to go.
Pioli took over Milan in 2019 and the high point of his stint in
charge was winning the 2021-22 Serie A title.
"Pioli was the architect of one of the most beautiful
championships in Milan's history, but there comes a point where
our paths inexorably have to part and we fans have waited too
long," said a statement on the Instagram account of 'Curva Sud',
the San Siro stand occupied by the Milan ultras.
"At this point, a change of coach is obligatory.
"Milan have been boring for a long time, without a style play,
confused, and in need of a change of direction, new stimuli".
