(ANSA) - ROME, APR 30 - Italian 2016 Olympic champion foil
fencer Daniele Garozzo on Tuesday said he was retiring saying he
had a damaged heart.
Acireale-born Garozzo, 31, posted a photo of himself with his
Rio gold medal and his Tokyo 2020 silver saying "My heart has
been injured".
"The time has come to announce my retirement from competitive
activity," Garozzo announced on Instagram, pulling out of the
Paris 2024 Games.
Italy's men's foil team qualified for Paris, and Garozzo was
among those in pole position for the call-up. (ANSA).
