(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 13 - Peace talks on Ukraine would be
possible if Russian President Vladimir Putin stopped bombing the
country, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said
in Rome Monday.
"If Putin stopped the bombing there could be peace negotiations
the day after," she said, stressing that "the peace process must
be led by the Ukrainians.
Speaking during a meeting with Deputy Premier and Foreign
Minister Antonio Tajani and the youth wing of his centre-right
Forza Italia (FI) party at the De Gasoeri Foundation, von der
Leyen said "after the Second World War we built an order of
peace, based on the legitimate sovereignty of the member
Countries and on international law.
"Russia is challenging all this". (ANSA).
