(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 13 - Peace talks on Ukraine would be possible if Russian President Vladimir Putin stopped bombing the country, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in Rome Monday.
"If Putin stopped the bombing there could be peace negotiations the day after," she said, stressing that "the peace process must be led by the Ukrainians. It is their right to do so".
Speaking during a meeting with Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and the youth wing of his centre-right Forza Italia (FI) party at the De Gasoeri Foundation, von der Leyen said "after the Second World War we built an order of peace, based on the legitimate sovereignty of the member Countries and on international law.
"Russia is challenging all this". (ANSA).
