(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 15 - The Ministry of the Environment and
Energy Security on Wednesday authorised Elmed, the first
electricity interconnection project between Italy and Tunisia to
be built by Terna and Steg, the Tunisian grid operator.
A joint statement from the grid operators said that a total
investment of around EUR 850 million is planned.
"The authorisation of the new interconnection between Italy and
Tunisia," said Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, "will allow
the country, by virtue of its strategic geographical position,
to strengthen its role as an electricity 'hub' in Europe and the
Mediterranean area, becoming an international player." (ANSA).
