Limited, slow progress on ITA-Lufthansa - EU sources

New German delegation to meet Vestager in bid to break deadlock

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 22 - Progress in talks aimed at securing an EU nod for the merger between Lufthansa and ITA is "little" and "slow", various EU sources told ANSA after the airlines made fresh commitments to try to meet antitrust demands Wednesday.
The further concessions from the German flag carrier and the Italian economy ministry on slots at Milan Linate do not appear to be sufficient, they said, and the EU reportedly wants a more solid solution for long-range routes from Rome Fiumicino to the USA and Canada, the sources said.
On Thursday a fresh German delegation is expected to meet Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager in Brussels in a bid to break the deadlock before a July 4 deadline for the yes or no to the deal. (ANSA).
