(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 27 - Manfred Weber, the German chair of
the Euroepan People's Party (EPP), said on arrival of the EPP
huddle ahead of the Thursday-Friday EU summit on EU top jobs and
European Commission nominations, that it was "crucial" to
involve Italy in the process.
"Italy is a G7 country, it is a leading country in the European
Union," he told reporters.
"I really appreciate all the contribution of the Italian
government under the leadership of (Foreign Minister) Antonio
Tajani and (Premier) Giorgia Meloni and that is why I think it
is fundamental for the EU that there is an inclusive process on
EU appointments that also takes into account Italian interests".
Italy is reportedly vying with France for a commission vice
president with big economic clout but the process is being
affected by alleged animosity between Meloni and French
President Emmanuel Macron, the Financial Times says. (ANSA).
