EU majority deal OK but no opening to Greens says Tajani

Ver perplexed abt 5-yr term for Socialist as Council chair

(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 27 - Deputy Premier, Foreign Minister, and centre-right post Berlusconi Forza Italia (FI) leader Antonio Tajani said ahead of the EU summit on top jobs and commission posts Thursday and Friday that he was in favour of confirming the existing European Parliament ruling majority coalition of his European People's Party (EPP), the Socialists and Democrats (S&D) and the Liberals, but without any opening to the Greens.
"Mine is a favourable inclination without any openness to the Greens," said Tajani, who has been pressing for Premier Giorgia Meloni's Conservatives and Reformists Party (ECR) to be allowed into the majority.
The ECR is expected, however, to offer only external support for the confirmed three-way alliance.
Tajani also said he was "very perplexed" that ex Portuguese premier Antonio Costa, a Socialist, had reportedly been offered a full five-year term as new president of the European Council, instead of the term being split in two. (ANSA).
