(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 3 - A 93-year-old former seamstress has got her middle-school diploma 80 years after the Second World War prevented her from continuing her star pupil's success.
Marianna Pace was the oldest student at the municipal night school at Benevento near Naples.
"I've always been curious about life and I consider myself quite well-read but I've always been lacking that 'piece of paper', which I obtained today in an environment that welcomed me with great affection and serenity," said the newly qualified Pace on Monday.
"I was always top of my class and my dad promisd me he'd fund my higher education but then the war and other things got in the way and I had to settle for a primary school leaving certificate.
"Now I've achieved my dream". (ANSA).
