(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 4 - The House on Thursday approved the
first article of a justice reform bill filed by Justice Minister
Carlo Nordio, an article that abolishes the crime of abuse of
office.
Magistrates and the opposition have condemned the move, which is
aimed at sparing mayors and other public officials from
sometimes frivolous and often groundless suits.
They are also against other major parts of the bill including
separating the career paths of judges and prosecutors so they
can no longer switch between the roles, and against the
scrapping of some wiretap information that is irrelevant to
criminal proceedings. (ANSA).
