(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 19 - ITA Airways said Friday that it was working to "limit the inconvenience to passengers as much as possible" after a major global IT outage related to Microsoft systems caused huge disruption to many sectors, including air transport.
It said the problem was causing delays and flight cancellations.
Aeroporti di Roma said there were no consequences on the operational systems at Rome's Fiumicino airport, but delays were inevitable due to repercussions on flights connecting the US and Europe.
It there were delays, averaging between 60 and 90 minutes, on flights regarding New York, Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, Boston, Philadelphia, Alicante, Barcelona, London, Manchester and Edinburgh.
Ftse Russell, the company that manages the Milan stock exchange's Ftse Mib index, said there had been a delay in updating the listing early on Friday, probably because of the outage.
Highways company Autostrade per l'Italia (Aspi) said it had activated its Business Continuity IT system early on Friday and had put on extra staff in order to cope with the disruption, stressing that "the service on the network was always guaranteed". (ANSA).
