(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 29 - About 300 people on Monday attended
the funeral of Roberto
Abbruzzo, 29, Margherita Della Ragione, 35, and Patrizia Della
Ragione, 53, who died last week in the collapse of a terrace in
one of the infamous 'Sails' apartment buildings in Naples'
Scampia district.
The funeral, celebrated by the archbishop of Naples, Mimmo
Battaglia, was attended by authorities including Naples Prefect
Michele di Bari, Campania Governor Vincenzo De Luca and Naples
Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, who declared a day of mourning on Monday
to commemorate the victims.
The collapse of the terrace also injured 12 others, including
seven children under the age of 10.
Four of the injured are still in hospital critical condition -
two adults and two children.
Prosecutors in Naples have opened an investigation on potential
charges of collapse due to negligence and manslaughter over the
incident that involved the only 'Sails' apartment building set
to remain after several others have been torn down over their
state of decay in the crime-ridden district.
A 'restyling' of the area, which is trying to make a civic
comeback after years of being identified with the Camorra mafia
and drug pushing, has started. (ANSA).
