(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 30 - Four Canadair planes and five
helicopters were working since the early hours of Tuesday to
extinguish a large wildfire in the Sardinian area of Nuoro that
blazed up late on Monday and progressed overnight, destroying
hundreds of hectares of land.
The seven-km-wide wildfire spread around the areas of Benetutti,
Orotelli, Orani, Orune and Nuoro in drought-hit Sardinia.
Eight people and four sheepfolds threatened by the blaze were
evacuated, local authorities said.
Firefighters and forest rangers are working to contain the
flames while police and Carabinieri officers are on the ground.
