(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 1 - AC Milan and Algeria midfielder Ismael
Bennacer on Thursday expressed solidarity for his compatriot
Imane Khelif amid a row over the boxer's participation at the
Paris 2024 Olympics.
Khelif has been allowed to take part in the Games despite being
disqualified from last year's women's boxing world championships
for failing gender-eligibility tests.
Her Italian opponent Angela Carini abandoned her match against
her on Thursday, saying she realised after one punch that she
was outpowered.
"Total support for our champion Imane Khelif, who is suffering a
wave of unjustified hatred," Bennacer said via social media.
"Your presence at the Olympic Games is simply the result of your
talent and work ethic.
"We believe in you to take Algeria's colours to the top".
