(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 11 - Migrant arrivals have plummeted in
2024 compared to 2023, marking a 62% drop on the previous year,
according to figures released Sunday - but there has been a
surge in arrivals from Bangladesh.
Some 35,725 people have arrived in Italy so far since the
beginning of the year compared to 94,009 in the same period in
2023.
With regard to nationalities, the most numerous are Bangladeshis
(7,615), followed by Syrians (5,725) and Tunisians (4,747).
According to informed sources, the route that, after arriving
from Bangladesh in Egypt, leads to crossings in the
Mediterranean towards Italy, is the one that is being
particularly monitored these days, especially following the
political crisis and unrest in the Asian country, which could
cause a further increase in flows from that territory. (ANSA).
