(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 11 - Argentine born coach Julio Velasco
was hoisted aloft by the Italian women's volleyball players
after they won a historic first Olympic gold in Paris Sunday
beating USA in three sets.
The 72-year-old, who fell short with the men's 'team of the
century' at Atlanta in 1996, coached the Azzurre to victory over
the reigning champs with Paola Egonu starring with 22 points.
Fans joyously waved tricolour flags as the arena as the arena
rocked to the Ricchi E Poveri hit Sarà Perché Ti Amo and its
famous chorus Vola Vola. (ANSA).
