(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 12 - Sardinia in 2023 was among Italy's top five regions chosen as the destination of a long holiday, lasting at least four nights, according to a study published on Monday by the Sardinian chapter of artisans association Confartigianato based on ISTAT data.
In terms of the presence of tourists, the island ranked 14th with 3.2% while Lazio led the ranking with 10.2%, followed by Campania with 4.6% and Sicily with 3.7%, according to data in the dossier "Towards the summer of 2024", drafted by Confartigianato Sardinia and based on figures on last year's tourist season released by national statistics bureau Istat.
Overall, the dossier found that, considering the "totality of holidays spent in Italy", the most popular region was Emilia Romagna (12% of tourists), followed by Tuscany (9%) and Trentino (8%).
Among the regions chosen for "holidays lasting four or more nights", Emilia Romagna again ranked at the top (11%), followed by Puglia (8,9%), Trentino (8,5%), Calabria (8,5%) and Sardinia with l'8,2%.
Foreign tourists instead mainly chose Bolzano with 70.5%, Veneto with 69.3% and Lazio with 63.7%. (ANSA).
