(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 12 - Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said Monday he would soon phone his Iranian counterpart Ali Bagher and urge caution in refraining from attacking Israel in response to last month's assassinations of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, and of a Hezbollah leader in Beirut, so as to avert escalation of the Mideast conflict.
"I will ask Iran's foreign minister once again to use the utmost caution because we are in a delicate moment. The closing of the ceasefire agreement in the Middle East is a key element for de-escalation," Tajani, who is also deputy premier, said on a visit to Switzerland.
"Here, no one must make any missteps that jeopardise the achievement of an agreement," Tajani said alongside his Swiss counterpart Ignazio Cassis, on the occasion of Diplomacy Day.
Tajani added: "I hope that Israel, as appears to be slowly happening, will accept the American proposals which we share, the ceasefire, the release of he hostages in order to then start a long process leading to a situation of two peoples, two States".
