(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 13 - Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni on
Tuesday spoke on the phone with her Israeli counterpart Benjamin
Netanyahu and reiterated a strong call for an agreement to be
reached on a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza and the release of
hostages, in line with the UN Security Council Resolution,
during the next round of talks on August 15.
The premier stressed her support for the mediation led by the
United States, Egypt and Qatar.
Recognizing Israel's right to self-defence, Meloni stressed the
importance of a de-escalation at a regional level, including
along the Israeli-Lebanese border where the UN Interim Force in
Lebanon UNIFIL, in which Italy plays a key role, is deployed.
