(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 13 - Prosecutors in the northern city of
Monza on Tuesday asked judges to shelve the case against the
national technical director of the Italian rhythmic gymnastics
team Emanuela Maccarani and her assistant Olga Tishina who were
under investigation for alleged psychological abuse of some
gymnasts.
Maccarani last December was reappointed national technical
director of the Italian rhythmic gymnastics team after being
reprimanded by the Italian Gymnastics Federation (FGI) for
psychologically abusing some ex-athletes.
FGI President Gherardo Tecchi, after consultation with Italian
Olympic Committee (CONI) chief Giovanni Malagò, announced the
termination of his own role as interim coach and at the same
time informed the federal executive of the reassignment of the
same role to Maccarani, whose trial for alleged psychological
abuse of some former gymnasts ended with a warning from the
FGI's disciplinary body. (ANSA).
