(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 13 - World number one Jannik Sinner has
played down concerns over a hip issue saying he is fine amid the
Cincinnati Masters 1000 running until August 19.
The 22-year-old Italian tennis player had problems with his
right hip during his quarter-final defeat by Andrey Rublev in
Montreal Saturday.
"I feel fine and I can't wait to return to the court", said the
athlete who is also gearing up for the US Open on August
26-September 8.
Sinner was the protagonist of the first half of the tennis
season, winning his first Slam at the Australian Open and
climbing to the top spot of the PIF ATP ranking for the first
time.
One of the main objectives of the tennis player for the season
was succeeding at the Paris Olympics but he had to pull out at
the last minute because he had tonsillitis.
"This year, given I was playing well, including in Paris at
Roland Garros, and knowing the Olympics were there, I thought I
could play well or quite well on the court and I saw the
possibility of a medal", said Sinner.
"But sometimes you need to accept things", he added, noting that
he "must be happy" for what he has achieved "without looking at
the negatives".
"I think my season is going in a very, very positive way and we
are continuing to build on this", he concluded. (ANSA).
