(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 14 - Bergamo police have decided to block
the repatriation of the 57 Ukrainian orphans, children and
adolescents aged between 6 and 16, who have been in the Lombardy
city since the start of the conflict in their country of origin,
for at least two weeks, police said Wednesday.
Kyiv had asked for their immediate repatriation through the
Ukrainian consulate in Italy, but the international agencies for
the protection of minors, from UNHCR to UNICEF, and the
guardians of 34 of these orphans, who had formalised a request
for international protection, have opposed this.
For now, therefore, no one will leave the reception facilities
in Rota Imagna, Pontida and Bedulita. (ANSA).
