Festival of Beauty to open at Selinunte

(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 18 - The ancient Magna Graecia city of Selinunte in south-western Sicily will host for the second consecutive year the Festival of Beauty.
    The event will open on August 22 with writer and philosopher Igor Sibaldi who will present an historic and philosophical reflection on Dionysus, the ancient Greek god of fertility. A day later, Sonia Bergamasco will debut a theatre performance called "Il sogno di Beatrice" (Beatrice's dream), based on a play by Ruggero Cappuccio, inspired by the princess of Lampedusa, the fascinating and cultured mother of novelist Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa.
    On August 24, Alessandro D'Avenia will talk about the profound meaning of Greek epic poem Odyssey.
    The festival is directed by Alcide Marchioro under the patronage of the culture ministry.
    Selinunte, one of the biggest and most important ancient Greek cities in southern Italy, boasts several magnificent temples, the earliest dating to 500 BC. (ANSA).
