Sinner positive for steroid but OK by anti-doping standard

Test in April, ITIA says 'unconscious intake'

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 20 - World number one Jannik Sinner tested positive for doping last April, but an independent investigation by ITIA, the world tennis anti-doping agency, cleared him of doping due to an "unconscious intake" of a substance used by his physiotherapist, the Australian Open champion's press office said Tuesday.
The substance found in the 23-year-old South Tyrolean's body was a metabolite of Clostebol, a steroid.
Sinner will not incur any sanctions and will be able to continue his season, where he is aiming for a US Open win. (ANSA).
