Vannacci says not leaving League party

If his 'committee gets bigger it will also benefit party'

(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 21 - Roberto Vannacci, an Italian general elected as an MEP in June's European elections as an independent on the League's list of candidates, says he is not leaving the party.
"The committee the world upside down, born in August 2023" is turning from a "cultural association to a political association - that's it", he said, responding on Wednesday to a question posed by Affaritaliani.it on whether he wants to launch the "Sovereign Europe" party and split from the League.
He said his association "attracts anyone sharing my positions" and, "given Vannacci is an MEP for the League and has no intention of leaving, the League will also benefit".
Vannacci is among six vice-presidents of the newly formed Patriots for Europe group in the EU Parliament.
The group's MEPs elected Jordan Bardella, the president of France's right-wing National Rally (RN) party, as the head of the caucus. (ANSA).
