(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 24 - Sanremo song contest winner Angelina
Mangano will star at Saturday night's 27th annual edition of the
Notte della Taranta, when the village of Melpignano rocks to
traditional 'pizzica' dances and music featuring some 150,000
'tarantolati' whirling tarantella dancers from all over the
world.
The event, beamed live on state broadcaster Rai's third channel
Rai3, this year has the theme "Taranta Generation".
The hypnotic pizzica music will be fused with modern sounds and
the beauty of traditional songs and chants in the local dialects
- salentino, grico e arbëreshë - will shine bright, showing how
the Puglia region combines traditional music with contemporary
artistic languages. (ANSA).
