(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 25 - Sanremo song contest winner Angelina
Mangano starred at Saturday night's 27th annual edition of the
Notte della Taranta, when the village of Melpignano rocks to
traditional 'pizzica' dances and music featuring some 150,000
'tarantolati' whirling tarantella dancers from all over the
world.
Also leading the dances as rapper Geolier.
The event, beamed live on state broadcaster Rai's third channel
Rai3, this year had the theme "Taranta Generation".
The hypnotic pizzica music was fused with modern sounds and the
beauty of traditional songs and chants in the local dialects -
salentino, grico e arbëreshë - shone bright, showing how the
Puglia region combines traditional music with contemporary
artistic languages. (ANSA).
