First competition after sickness-affected Olympic disappointment

(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 25 - Gianmarco Tamberi won a Diamond League event Sunday after his return from the Paris Olympics where his hopes of retaining his Tokyo high-jump title were dashed by kidney-stone induced vomiting and coughing blood that saw him on a hospital drip just hours before the final in the French capital.
Marche-born 'Gimbo', 32, won the Polish leg of the Diamond League at the 'Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial'.
The Italian, back from his unfortunate Olympic parenthesis, was looking for a little redemption and found it, winning the high jump ahead of Ukrainian Doroshchuk: his 2.31 at the second attempt was decisive, while the other Italian Stefano Sottile stopped at the 2.26 attempt for a seventh place finish, better than Paris gold medallist Hamish Kerr of New Zealand , who was resoundingly already eliminated.
