Heatwave expected to grip Italy for another week

(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 28 - Italy will be gripped by a heatwave for another seven days before a developing system in the Atlantic makes its way to the country, lowering temperatures, meteorologist Lorenzo Tedici of the website www.iLMeteo.it said on Wednesday.
    "At least until the beginning of September, temperatures will rise in several areas of the country beyond 35-37°C with peaks of 39°C, especially in Sardinia and Puglia", he said.
    Meanwhile, storms were forecast over the next few hours over the central and southern Apennines and on the southern Tyrrhenian Sea, as well as in Sicily and Calabria on Thursday.
    Despite the rain, temperatures will rise to reach 36°C in Caserta, Taranto and Terni and 35°C in Benevento, Firenze, Lecce and Rome, forecasts said.
    Between Thursday and Sunday, September 1, temperatures will rise and storms will decrease with the sun expected to shine across much of the peninsula on Friday.
    Temperatures Friday are expected to reach 37°C in Caserta, Florence and Terni, 36°C in Ferrara and Forlì, and 34°C in Milan and Rome. (ANSA).
