(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 29 - Jannik Sinner said Thursday it was an "honour" to be able to lift Oliviero Toscani's spirits after the 82-year-old cult ex Benetton photographer revealed that watching the 23-year-old world tennis number one gave him some relief from a terminal disease over which he is considering ending his own life.
"It is an honour to be part of your days", The Aussi OPen champ reportedly said in a video message sent to the controversial photographer, who had said that that Sinner gives him "relief in life".
Sinner was reportedly as struck and moved as anyone by Toscani's story of his struggle with amyloidosis.
Playing in the second round of the US Open in New York and informed of Toscani's words, Sinner recorded a video to express his closeness and thanks to him, asking the staff to give it to the photographer confidentially, to whom he also made a joke about their common Inter fandom.
Toscani said Wednesday he had lost 40kg in a year and was considering phoning his friend right to die activist Marco Cappato to take him to a Swiss assisted suicide clinic. (ANSA).
