(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 1 - A 17-year-old on Sunday confessed to allegedly killing his father, mother and 12-year-old brother at their family home in Paderno Dugnano near Milan, investigative sources said.
After being questioned by investigators throughout the day, the teen changed his previous version of events saying he had killed not only his father but his entire family, ANSA has learned.
The teen early on Sunday morning called the 112 emergency service saying he had murdered his father after the man had stabbed his mother and 12-year-old brother to death in their home.
He said he had woken up during the night after hearing his mom and brother scream and had walked into his sibling's room to find his dad with a knife in his hand beside the bodies of his younger brother and mother in the family apartment.
The teen said he then took the knife from his father's hands and killed him.
The murders occurred at around 1 in the morning, investigative sources said.
Investigators found discrepancies in the boy's version of events, noting for example that he did not have signs on his body of a fight with his father.
The 17-year-old was officially placed under investigation on Sunday afternoon by Milan's juvenile prosecution unit before he confessed to allegedly committing all three murders.
The family of four on Saturday night had celebrated the father's 51st birthday with relatives at the small villa the family owned in the town near Milan.
The night ended with the murder of the man, his 49-year-old wife and their youngest son, aged 12.
Carabinieri police investigating the triple murders, who are coordinated by prosecutors in Monza and by the juvenile unit of Milan's State attorney's office said all four members of the family were at home at the end of celebrations.
Family friends and the mayor of Paderno Dugnano, Anna Varisco, expressed shock at the news of the triple murder.
"They were a normal, serene family, not followed by social services and described by everyone as not having problems", Varisco told ANSA.
The outcome of investigations by the Carabinieri police's forensic unit, including on the alleged murder weapon the teen took outside the home after calling 112, and autopsies will be key in verifying the new version of events, investigative sources said. (ANSA).
