(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 5 - Torrential rain battered Piedmont on
Thursday, causing flooding and significant damage.
The western part of the northern region was on orange alert, one
notch down from the maximum red, while the other areas were on
yellow alert.
Firefighters were at work since dawn on Thursday in the city of
Turin and in areas of Val di Susa and Val Chisone, at 700 metres
of altitude, after the Gerdardo river overflowed and a bridge
collapsed.
According to preliminary information, 20 people remained
isolated in the area while 30 others were isolated in the little
town of Santa Petronilla near Bussoleno when another river
overflowed, flooding a provincial road.
Violent storms in Val Chisone flooded more provincial roads in
Perosa Argentina and Villar Perosa. (ANSA).
