Sinner awaited in Italy as WADA still has time for appeal

World No. 1 will be in Bologna to support Italians at Davis Cup

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 10 - World number one Jannik Sinner is expected back in Italy after his historic US Open victory last Sunday to support Italian players in action in Bologna for the Davis Cup on September 15.
Meanwhile, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) still has time to decide whether to appeal to the Lausanne-based Court of Arbitration of Sport (TAS) against a decision by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) which cleared Sinner of responsibility for involuntarily taking a banned steroid in April, Clostebol.
ANSA has learned that WADA last week asked ITIA for the complete documentation on the case and has 21 days of time to file an appeal starting from when it receives the material.
WADA is therefore expected to take a decision by the end of the month.
Meanwhile it has confirmed that "a review of the case is still ongoing" and that, "for the moment, no decision has been taken".
TAS has in fact not received an appeal so far.
Meanwhile the other party potentially interested in an appeal, Italy's anti-doping agency Nado Italia, has not filed it, as reported earlier by ANSA. (ANSA).
