Toti says enemy not judiciary but politics

Politics built cage it locked itself in says ex Liguria chief

(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 14 - Former Liguria governor Giovanni Toti, who is waiting to see if a judge upholds his two year graft plea bargain commuted to 1,500 hours of community service, said Saturday the real enemy of politics was not the judiciary but politics itself.
"The real enemy of politics is not the judiciary, but politics itself, which has built the cage in which it has enclosed itself. In order to try to change this policy, I have done what I could and I have paid for it in person," said the one-time Mediaset journalist and former dauphin of Silvio Berlusconi.
"If the subdued grumbling, or worse, the half-mouthed smile of those who hope to take the place of the person under investigation at any given time, is not replaced by the courage to change, then, come on the next one, as a well-known song says, I'll leave him my place." (ANSA).
