(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 15 - The president of the Italian
athletics federation, Stefano Mei, on Sunday hailed Italy's best
ever haul of three victories in the Diamond League finals in
Brussels Saturday night with wiss buy high jumper Gianmarco
Tamberi, long jumper Larissa Iapichino and shot putter Leonardo
Fabbri, who bettered the Italian record by three centimetres.
"The trio of successes in Diamond League is almost the natural
conclusion of a season that was even better than the previous
ones," Mei told ANSA.
"Tokyo, with its five golds, was the highest moment for
athletics, we thought it was an unrepeatable thing and instead
the lads and lasses repeated with the European Cup, the 24
medals in Rome (European championships, ed.), and 70% more
finalists in Paris.
"We are getting used to the extraordinary, winning three Diamond
Leagues shows that our young people are now among those to beat.
I'm very happy, although I would have been even happier if ti
had gone this well also in Paris". (ANSA).
