(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 15 - Deputy Premier and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini on Sunday thanked everyone for their support after a Palermo prosecutor requested a six-year jail term for the former interior minister for allegedly kidnapping 147 migrants aboard the Open Arms rescue ship dive years ago, and said he would never give up fighting for Italy and protecting its borders.
"Thank you all for the support. Surrender? Never. I do not give up," said the rightwing anti-immigrant League party leader, publishing some of the statements of solidarity and support he had received since Saturday's request, including from Premier Giorgia Meloni and his fellow deputy premier and foreign minister, Antonio Tajani.
