(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 16 - A 22-year-old law students from the town of Traversetolo near Parma is accused of killing her newborn baby right after giving birth on August 7 and hiding his body in the garden of her family home, investigative sources said Monday.
Investigative sources said they have also found the remains of a second newborn baby believed to have been killed about one year ago.
The young woman is being probed on charges of premeditated murder and concealment of corpses.
Investigative sources said the first body, which was discovered on August 9, allegedly belonged to the newborn son of the 22-year-old who lives in the home with her family.
The baby was killed right after birth, which occurred just two days before the woman was scheduled to depart for a trip abroad.
Subsequently, investigators discovered the remains of a second baby who had been born at around 40 weeks, the sources said.
The remains are believed to date back to about a year ago, according to investigators who suspect the young woman allegedly gave birth to both babies and killed them before concealing their corpses.
The young woman is in a long-term relationship but her boyfriend is at the moment not under investigation.
In a long statement issued on Monday, Parma prosecutor Alfonso D'Avino who is coordinating the investigation said the young woman's parents and boyfriend were not involved.
"Nobody except for the young woman was aware of the pregnancy: neither the family, nor the baby's father, nor friends", said State attorneys.
The woman was also not treated by a doctor during her pregnancy and she gave birth at home "alone, without the cooperation nor the presence of anyone", the statement said. (ANSA).
