Energy transition should leave nobody behind - Giorgetti

It should be promoted to 'favour economic growth'

(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 16 - Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti on Monday said transition to renewable sources of energy should be promoted in a way that is "favourable to economic growth" to ensure citizens' support.
Addressing via video link a G7- International Energy Agency (IEA) conference that the Bank of Italy is hosting in Rome, the minister stressed the commitment of Italy's G7 presidency on the issue and highlighted the need to involve governments, civil society and the private sector with fundamental cooperation.
The complexity of transition requires to "use the scarce public resources" available and accurate "planning", Giorgetti noted.
This implies involving all "stakeholders" given it is not only an environmental theme but also a social issue "whose benefits should not weigh disproportionally on the most vulnerable but should be shared by all". On an international level, Giorgetti mentioned the work carried out by the Italian presidency on the initiative Rise (Supply-chain Enhancement) which vies to help developing countries become more productive while focusing on clean energy, with particular attention to the African continent.
