(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 17 - A government meeting was held on
Tuesday to discuss the adoption of urgent measure to stem
violent actions against healthcare workers following a string
of attacks on hospital staff registered in Italy, sources at the
premier's office Palazzo Chigi said.
The summit, chaired by the Cabinet Undersecretary Alfredo
Mantovano, was attended by Justice Minister Carlo Nordio,
Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, Health Minister Orazio
Schillaci and Parliament Minister Luca Ciriani.
In the latest attack against healthcare personnel reported late
Monday, a doctor was stabbed by a former patient in the
psychiatric ward of Bolzano's San Maurizio Hospital.
The male assailant, aged 57, struck the doctor in the back with
a kitchen knife.
The doctor was not seriously injured. (ANSA).
