Tennis: Sinner confident WADA drug appeal will turn out OK

(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 4 - Jannik Sinner said Friday he was confident that the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) appeal against his acquittal on the allegedly accidental use of a banned steroid would be rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
    "The three hearings I have attended have all been in my favor and I remain confident that everything will be resolved for the best, a different outcome would leave me even more surprised," said the 23-year-old South Tyrolean world number one.
    "It is not a situation in which I feel comfortable, there is no doubt, I thought it was all over and instead it is not and it is not easy".
    Aussie Open champ Sinner was speaking ahead of an ATP tournament in Shanghai after he lost the China Open to the 21-year-old world number three, former US Open champ, reigning French Open champ and two-time and reigning Wimbledon champ Carlos Alcaraz of Spain in Beijing earlier this week.
    Sinner risks a two-year ban if convicted of deliberately using Clostebol, which he said his trainer accidentally applied to him in treating a cut with a cream.
    Sinner's doping case has been one of the biggest stories in tennis since shortly before the U.S. Open. On August 20, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced that Sinner, the men's world No. 1, had twice tested positive for clostebol — a banned anabolic steroid — in March 2024, but it has cleared him of deliberate use.
