Piantedosi says grateful to 34 police hurt in Rome

(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 6 - Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi on Sunday said he was sympathetic and grateful to the 34 police officers hurt in clashes with pro-Palestinian protesters at a march in Rome Saturday.
    "The outcome of yesterday's demonstration in Rome is 4 people stopped, including one arrested, and over 200 removed before the start," he said on X.
    "Of these, 51 were served a deportation order from Rome as they have previous convictions for crimes against public order.
    "All my sympathies and gratitude to the 34 police officers attacked and injured on the occasion.
    "I thank the police forces and the Rome police headquarters for the effective and balanced management of a difficult situation, in defense of the safety of citizens".
    The current tally from the event is one arrest, four detainees, over 200 people removed before the demonstration, 51 of whom had a deportation order - since they had previous convictions for crimes against public order - and 150 who, in order not to be identified at the controls, decided to go back escorted to the provincial border.
    Thirty-four officers were injured, including a director of the State Police who suffered a fractured pelvis. (ANSA).
